Fantasy Fiction. A Dash of Philosophy, and a Lot of Social Commentary.

What if the ordinary moments in your life, your morning coffee, a trail through the woods, the soft hush of evening light, held extraordinary meaning? What if the stories we tell could also help us question the world, confront its contradictions, and imagine something better?

Chris Wilkins believes they can.

His work begins with attention. Sometimes that attention turns inward, toward gratitude, meaning, aging, love, and the strange beauty of being alive. Sometimes it turns outward, toward education, artificial intelligence, politics, economics, and the systems that shape our lives. His social commentary combines curiosity, humor, and hard-earned wisdom, inviting readers to pause and say, “Wait a damn minute. Why does it work this way?”

As an educator, Chris has spent years exploring how people learn, think, question, and create. A former classroom teacher and national project-based learning facilitator with the Buck Institute for Education, he has worked with educators across the country to build classrooms rooted in inquiry, student voice, authentic problems, and meaningful work. His experience also draws upon the shared principles of project-based learning and the International Baccalaureate approach.

Today, that work has expanded into the relationship between artificial intelligence and human thought. Chris writes about AI not simply as a tool for producing answers, but as a partner in inquiry, a way to accelerate thinking through dialogue, reflection, and better questions. He believes AI should augment human cognition without replacing the struggle, imagination, judgment, and authorship that make learning deeply human. His work asks educators to consider not only whether students should use AI, but how its thoughtful use might help them become more curious, capable, and intellectually independent.

In his reflective nonfiction, including A Reason to Live and the soon-to-be-released Ordinary Magic of Meaning, Chris explores the extraordinary meaning hidden within everyday life. His essays and his blog, Motivated Outlook, feel less like content and more like a conversation, sometimes a prayer, sometimes a hand on your shoulder, and sometimes a lively discussion over a cup of coffee.

Then there is Guardians of Ink, his unfolding fantasy adventure about mythology, identity, courage, friendship, and love. When ancient Guardians emerge from the tattoos of a fifteen-year-old girl, myths from across the world awaken with them. At its heart, it is a story about becoming, discovering who you are, and finding the courage to stand beside the people you love.

And then there are the photographs.

Chris’s photography captures the stillness between thoughts: a shaft of light falling through pine trees, a weathered dock lost in fog, a single smile caught in perfect impermanence. Each image serves as its own meditation, honest, grounded, and reverent.
